Help! I need to decide on Postcrossing.

I really, really want to join Postcrossing, a project that facilitates exchange of real postcards with its members around the world. But seeing that I'm tightly holding onto my limited moolah, I am hesitating. If you are from the US, you are limited to exchange with countries other than the US. So that means each postcard will cost about a dollar ($0.94) in postage. If I buy a postcard at 50 cents each, and send 5 postcards at a time, that will cost me $2.50. For each maximum mailing of 5 cards, I will spend about $7.50. Ehh, that's a bit too much. :(

But the fun of getting postcards in the mail (which will happen because as soon as one of my cards get registered, my address gets assigned to someone, who will then send me a postcard) is enticing. And trying out postcrossing is on my 101/1001 (#9).

Decisions, decisions. Should I try it now or wait until I get a job? Please share your thoughts, dear friends. ^_^

until when do you have to decide on this gail? I say, some things are priceless you know... years later, you may look at those postcards either thinking 'what the hell was I thinking' or glad that you did. so think a year or two from now.

I always send my mom postcards whenever I travel... so if you want, I can include you in my postcard list. I can start by sending you a postcard from Thailand, just give me your mailing address (email me at yasminka@gmail.com). I may be traveling in June so we'll see if you'll get another postcard outside of Thailand :) and no, you don't have to send me back a postcard :) how's that?

hmmm...really sounds fun. but if budget is at stake, it can wait. every penny counts.

Thanks so much for helping me cross an item off my list! Repertoire! Yeesh I couldn't find it anywhere... glad you're so smart. ;)
Postcrossing sounds really fun but when the timing is right to do it you'll know.

wait till you get a job. so it won't be a guilty pleasure.

thanks for the thoughts, friends. i am beginning to lean towards waiting some more time, which is such a hard thing for me to do. :)

hi kimz! nah, i'm not smart. i just came across that word in writing before and then mispronounced it (as in, "re-per-toyr") LOL.

Hi Gail! I stumbled across your blog and read about your postcrossing dilemma! I am a member (have sent 30 and received 23) and I love it. It can, however, be expensive. You do not have to send 5 at a time! If your budget only allows 1, then do 1! That way you can increase when you are ready! If you want more details about my experience, feel free to leave a comment for me at http://i-post-i-am.blogspot.com/
and I will be sure to answer any of your questions! Good luck with your decision!

wow, thanks for the visit iPost and the fresh perspective! right now, i've decided to postpone joining postcrossing until a month from now. i might get addicted real quickly and then run out of funds. i'll be heading over to your blog right now. :D

You don't have to send 5 cards all in one time. You can start by 2 every month. I am a postcrosser too! Yes, it's quite expensive when you like to have lots. But I chose to slow down. So, enjoy every card

salamat, jane. i'll definitely try postcrossing, but i'm thinking doing it slowly, like you said. maybe next month... :D
