Hello Toshie

Finally, I've gotten myself a laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite, whom I've nicknamed "Toshie." Yeah, I'm not that creative.

One surprise is Microsoft Office OneNote. Whoa. I didn't know such a thing existed. So far, I've been using it for Bible reflections. I put a soothing cloud stationery on, read and meditate on my Bible passage and let my fingers fly. I didn't think I could write that much. But it has been great. I needed OneNote, and what do you know? God provided it.

The Microsoft Works calendar is also proving to be interesing. I might abandon Google Calendar soon.

Then Google Desktop! Whoa. It's only on Toshie that I've really dived into Google Desktop. And boy, am I impressed! I've even gone and done Google Bookmarks. My Google gadgets are only few, but I use them all the time. The To-Do List is the most overused. But the scratch pad is catching up. I glance over the news headlines and click on one or two sometimes.

Setting up my wireless network on Toshie took some head-scratching time. Once it was up and running, staying online was no problem. Connecting after shutting down was a breeze!!!

Battery life is just over 2 hours. That does not bother me much since I'm always close to the outlet. Toshie will not be as mobile as other notebooks, but I think longer lasting batteries will be added to my wishlist.

The only snag is getting one of my DVDs to play using Express Media Player. For some reason, I get "incorrect media" every single time. But when I inserted another DVD (of the same TV show), it played. I have yet to watch a DVD on Toshie, but running Sims 2 DVD was no problem.

The touchpad took a lot of time getting used to since I had been enamored with the Mac's pad. However, right now, I'm completely happy with my Toshie touchpad. So much so that when I went online on the MacBook, I got lost.

I had tried ordering Toshie online through Outpost.com, but that fell through. So I ordered through the phone. The sales associate who helped me was very good and fast, but Toshie was not shipped until the next day. I ordered close to 11pm, Eastern time, but they could have worked harder to get Toshie to DHL before midnight. I mean, they did say that all orders placed before 12midnight Eastern would be shipped that same day. Harrrumph. I was so pissed off with the online order getting canceled that I am going to pick at the details. With that said, I still say I got Toshie on a great deal. For less than 620 bucks, I got Toshie the day after Thanksgiving after ordering on Tuesday.

Now, I just need a cushy case for my Toshie... :)
